Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event.
