Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
