NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
