Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
