Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
