Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
