NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
