No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
