Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
