Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
