No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
