Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
