Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
