Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
