No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
