Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
