Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
