No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
