Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
