No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
