Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
