Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
