Hold’em Techniques – Top Opening Hands

One of the biggest troubles that I encountered when I first got into Hold em was figuring out what cards to play in what Placement. Typically I would receive burned on a hand that I thought was a good starting hand. Come to find out they were great hands, just not in the location I was wagering them from. Here is a pretty basic list of what type of hands to bet on and what position it’s suitable to bet on them in. Bear in mind this chart doesn’t factor in raises or suits.

Play From Any Placement

AA King, King QQ JJ TT 99 Eight, Eight Ace, King Ace, Queen AJ AT King, Queen King, Jack

Bet on Mid to Late Position

Six, Six 55 KT QJ Queen, Ten Jack Ten

Wager on in Late Position Only

Ace, Nine Ace, Eight A7 King, Nine King, Eight Queen, Nine Jack, Nine J8 Ten, Nine Ten, Eight 98 97

If you’re just beginning to wager on poker, wagering these hands at the recommended positions will help you always be in a safe location before the flop. As your game progresses, you’ll be able to add a lot more hands to this list and know how to wager on them in specific situations. In case you are just beginning to play cards, I would recommend wagering for nickels and dimes at residence or for free at a web-based poker website. Poker websites are nice because you have to see several far more hands per hour than you do at household. A few goods websites to wager on for no cost are UltimateBet and PartyPoker.com.
